THE STORY OF THE STONE SOUP

A man came to town, tired and hungry without food. He went door to door asking for food. No one helped the poor man. Tired and hungry the man went to the town's square. There he came up with a great idea. In his belongings he had a cast iron pot and spoon. He saw a large flat stone picked it up and washed it off. He built a fire, added water to his pot,and once the water started boiling, he added the large stone. The water simmered in the pot, and the man began to stir the pot. A shop keeper saw the man cooking in the town square and  went to ask him what he was cooking. The man replied "Stone soup of course." The shop keeper asked if he could  have some. The man said of course, but the stone soup needed something to make it taste better. The shop keeper said " I have just the thing!" and ran to his shop, returning with some carrots. " Here you are , you can add this  to the soup. The man added it and tasted the soup. "It still needs something." At that point another towns person came forward stating that he would love to have some of the stone  soup and that he had something he could contribute to the soup. The townsman came back with some celery and tomatoes They added it to the soup but still it was still missing something. More people came out of their homes interested in having some of the stone soup. From all the different homes, people brought various ingredients, herbs and spices. Finally, the soup was done. The man was happy  to share what he made with the whole community.
